Spiritual Truth from Nietzsche
October 21, 2008 by Michael K.

Straight from the mouth of one of the pillars of Communism:
“I will believe in your redeemer when you look more redeemed.”
Just something to think about today.

oh wow.
Hmm…he makes a good point.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I’m enjoying your Bible study and now looking forward to reading your blog.
Blessings,

Michael,
My wife really appreciated the comment you left on her blog. She wrote about a Sunday School lesson you had a part in dealing with how to pray. I know I pray for what I want, a new liver, but only that it is my hope a new liver is in His will and timing. I see you work with the young adult ministries; my uncle James Jackson works for Lifeway and lives in Nashville. He has been involved as a director for the M-Fuge camps. Do you know him? Again, thank you for posting on my wife’s site. She was wondering how you ran across it.
God Bless,
Chris Harris
Thanks for reading, Harris family – everybody reading this should also shoot over to where you guys are online to read some more about your story.

Michael,
There is some definite, hard, convicting truth to Nietzsche’s statement here. Christians (including me), all too often, look very unlike their Redeemer. We should think seriously about what Nietzsche says here and apply it to our hearts and to our lives.
Ultimately though, as one who studied philosophy in college, was later converted to Christianity, and then “added” the Bible to that study (a serious understatement!), the simple, Biblical fact is, we Christians can look like as much like the Redeemer as is humanly possible, and non-Christians will *still* only believe (trust) in Christ when God opens their sin-blinded eyes and changes their God-hating hearts. This truth is found all throughout the Bible, and we *must* remember it, even as we soberly consider Nietzsche’s words, in relation to our own lives and the lack of Christ-likeness therein.
Typo– I meant to write, “we Christians can look *as much like* the Redeemer as is humanly possible, and….”
Thanks, Chris – always good to remember that the responsibility and the credit for conversion rests on the Holy Spirit.
I have been trying to track down the source of this quote attributed to Nietzsche to make sure it is not one of those “This is what he might have said” types of attributions that eventually become “true” through repetition…..anyone know?
