One of my New Year’s resolutions this year is to blame it on the economy. What is “it”, you ask? Glad you did.
That’s the beauty of the resolution. I’m going to follow everyone in the media right now and blame everything on the economy. It’s a perfect explanation in any situation. Some situations come to mind readily:
“Why aren’t my books selling thousands more copies? Well, it’s the economy.”
“No, I can’t have dinner to night at the Steakhouse. The economy and all…”
“Sorry, I can’t buy a Snuggie. You know how the economy is…”
“No, we can’t go to McDonald’s Joshua. Not in this economy.”
“Sorry, Jana, we’ll not be going to see The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 3. Haven’t you heard about the economy?”
“I don’t think I’m going to work on my PhD for a while. The economy prohibits it.”
But I believe the economy as an excuse can stretch far beyond those reaches. For example:
“I think I’m going to start hating the color purple. What with the economy and all.”
“Nope, can’t mow the grass this afternoon. Why? The economy!”
“I think I’ll have Captain Crunch and sausage for dinner due to the distressing news about the economy.”
“My soup is cold. Darn this economy!”
2009, here I come…
But Michael, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is such quality entertainment!
I’m with Jana. There are some things you MUST do when the economy is bad. It boosts your spirits. (And you know it will!)
I have no more to say on the Traveling Pants issue.
I don’t have much time to blog anymore with the economy and all…
Even in down times such as this, certain things still warrant being purchased. I can’t agree with the ladies about the Pants and everything, but just think how comfortable you would be on your couch in your office surrounded by the shekinah warmth of a Snuggie. Seriously, it’s only $19.95. Small price to pay for some shekinah.
The day I see you at a VA Tech football game wearing a Snuggie is the day I buy 3.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants made me cry!
Just wanted to let you know I really liked your posts on child like faith vs. childish faith. John and I had actually been talking about the difference right before I read them!
Thanks for reading, Anna. Go, pants, go…
Maybe we could do a Threads movie called, “Brotherhood of the Traveling Snuggie.” I can just see me in a duck blind staying warm in the snuggie, the gazelle doing a tri-athalon in the snuggie, and you visiting Mickey Mouse all snuggled up. Could be a real tear jerker!

I want to buy the snuggie just so I can get those 2 really cool book lights! Those would make it totally worth it… but I’m just stuck on picking which color snuggie that I want.
[...] Check out this story from the New York Times. Is it too cynical of me to say that apparently the downturn in the economy really is influencing everything? The announcement in church bulletins and on Web sites has been greeted with enthusiasm by some and [...]
