Dear Joshua:
As of Thursday, you are a big, bad, 5-year-old boy, and though you have said in the last couple of days that you don’t feel like you’re 5, you can’t possibly have that feeling as much as I do. The truth is that your 5 years have been some of the greatest – but [...]

There are a few things that Joshua hates. One is sitting in his room with the door shut.
Another is squash, or any other gourd-like vegetable.
We had a horrible time this week convincing Joshua that the bread he was scarfing down this sweet bread that it made out of zuccini. It was an absolute impossibility to [...]

We are in the middle of potty training. Man, it’s frustrating. There’s nothing like asking a kid every 30 minutes, “Do you need to pee-pee?”
Then there’s nothing like doing a celebration “human excrement” dance every time something appears in that little potty.
To further along the process, we have adopted the M&M method of reward. Andi [...]

Knowing that the subject could potentially open up a can of worms, it was time to tell Joshua and Andi that we’re going to have another baby. Andi said she would give him/her kisses. Joshua? Well, not so smooth…
Adult: “Guess what, guys? We’re going to have another baby in our house.”
Joshua: “Today?”
Adult: “No not today. [...]

If you saw last week’s “Weekends Are For Kids,” you know that number 3 is on the way. That’s cool; we like our kids so far. No reason to buck the trend now.

It’s hard to even say. But there it is – and along with it [...]

Dear Andi:
Congratulations, little girl – you’re 2 years old. And what a 2 years it’s been. I’ll admit, Andi – I approached life with you with some trepidation. It wasn’t just because of your older brother’s health at the time (did I ever tell you that mommy, you, and Joshua were almost all in the [...]

We had a great time in Florida, despite the brief hospital stay. There are a couple of enduring memories I’ll take from the experience. Many of them involve Joshua and Andi’s interaction with each other and with the characters.
Take Thursday, for example. We extended our vacation by one day because we lost the day in [...]

Joshua’s Make-A-Wish trip is rapidly approaching. In fact, we leave this Thursday for Disneyworld. One of the cool things the foundation does for wish kids is give them a party where all their friends can come. Then they announce the wish.
We have Joshua’s party at Pump-it-Up a couple of nights ago. It was a total [...]

This week, on Thursday, is the “reveal party” for Joshua’s Make-A-Wish. On Thursday, a party has been planned for Joshua at Pump It Up. It should be a rocking good time.
We leave for DisneyWorld a week from Thursday. Can’t wait.
